The cover

Vogue Australia December 2011

Model: Isabel Lucas
Photographer: Max Doyle
Stylist: Naomi Smith

How amazing are these shots of Isabel shot in the Kalahari desert in Botswana? Insane.
Definitely going to pick up this month's issue of Australian Vogue.

Beautiful, but I don't appreciate people being used as props or an entire continent being portrayed as though it were one desert country.

I'm deeply put off by, as Shazam said, the massive overgeneralization of Africa as a fully desert place. If they wanted to focus on a desert country, or a specific desert, why not use the country or desert's name, instead of going with the classic trope of lumping all African countries under the continent's name? Editorials are rarely titled just "in Europe" or "in North America" if they're only showing a small part of those continents. The use of Africans as props to a blond model is awful as well, as is the sense of imperialism in the clothes and general outlook. It's a incredibly small-minded, outdated photoshoot.

amazing photos! I like the simplicity of them.. it's not the regular "vogue/couture and luxurious" aesthethic, it's more down to earth.. it's dreamy

LOVE this issue! Really great content. To be honest, I absolutely adore the cover but I don't love the editorial like I love the other main editorial in this issue. Still one of the best in awhile though! I love how they have done their header, too!

Such an inspirational editorial. I think I think I'll wander out to get myself a copy of Vogue OZ :)

I agree with Kevina. As much as I love the clothes and Isabel herself, WHY or WHY can't these educated fashion people stop lumping Africa as one big country? They should say Isabel in Botswana or Namibia or South Africa, judging by the Khoisan (bushmen) in that picture with her. Being from Southern Africa (more specifically South Africa) I would know what that is. But some freakin idiot would easily believe that to be Kenya or Nigeria. We are not all the same. Can Australian Vogue get it right please?! God forbid we called them New Zealanders, because clearly there is a difference.
